Do I have to move my Moonfruit website across to Wix?

The Moonfruit platform will be decommissioned on 7th December 2021. If you continue with your Moonfruit subscription, your site(s) will be automatically moved by Yell, for no additional cost, onto the Wix platform before that date. If you do not wish to move your site(s) onto the Wix platform you can cancel your subscription with Moonfruit and move your site(s) to a provider of your choice ahead of this date.

Why is the Moonfruit platform being decommissioned?

The Moonfruit platform has served its customers since 2000, however it was built using Adobe Flash which is no longer supported and as such does not provide a reliable experience with modern browsers. As the owner of Moonfruit, Yell has taken the decision to close the platform in line with its recent partnership announcement with Wix, one of the world’s leading web development platforms.

Do I have to move my website across now? Can it stay where it is until the end of the year?

Moonfruit websites owned by paying customers based in the UK will be moved across by Yell to the Wix platform in batches starting from September 2021. All these sites will be migrated ahead of the decommissioning of the Moonfruit platform on 7th December 2021. Customers will be notified at least 2 weeks before their site is migrated.

How do I cancel my Moonfruit subscription?

We would be sorry to lose you as a customer, and that you will not have the opportunity to experience the improved functionality that the Wix platform has to offer. However, if you still wish to cancel, you can do this via your Moonfruit customer dashboard.

Who are Yell and Wix? Why would I want to move to their platform and services?

Yell is the UK’s No.1 provider of managed digital marketing services for all types of local businesses1, and it acquired Moonfruit in 2012 which continued to be run as a separate entity. Yell recently announced a new partnership with Wix, one of the world’s leading web development platforms, and because of this you can benefit from:

What do I need to do to migrate my website?

Customers will be contacted at least 2 weeks before their site is migrated with information about what to expect and any steps they will need to take. When you receive that email, we will ask you to cease any further editing of your site(s) so we can ensure the latest version of your website is migrated, and we will also explain what you need to do if you bought your own domain name from any provider other than Namesco.

How long do I have to make edits to my site once I receive the pre-migration notice email?

Once you receive the email with the subject line ‘Advanced notice of your Moonfruit website migration’ you will have 5 days to make any last-minute edits to your website before it is migrated. If you make any edits after this time, we cannot guarantee that these changes will appear in your new site on the Wix platform.

Do I need to repoint my domain name or is this taken care of?

If your domain name was purchased via the Moonfruit platform with Namesco we will repoint it for you. However, if your domain name is with any other provider you will need to repoint this yourself. We will provide full instructions on how to do this both before and after migration.

How do I repoint my domain to my new site on the Wix platform?

We will set your site up with a premium plan on the Wix platform so you will be able to follow the instructions here to connect your new site to a 3rd party domain.

When will you be migrating my website? What happens next?

We are migrating customers in batches between August and November 2021. Customers will be contacted at least 2 weeks before their site is migrated with information about what to expect and any steps they will need to take.

How long will it take to migrate my website? Will there be any down time?

Customers should not experience any downtime as we will be recreating your site(s) on the new Wix platform, so your existing site on Moonfruit will be unaffected. If you have your domain with Namesco we will repoint this domain to the new site. If you have your domain with another provider, it will be your responsibility to repoint that domain to the new site. Typically, domain repoints should take no longer than 48 hours.

How do I make sure any links I had to pages on my Moonfruit website pages continue to work?

What if there is functionality on my Moonfruit website that can’t be reproduced on the Wix platform?

We are confident the majority of Moonfruit functionality can be reproduced on the Wix platform, and all sites will go through a rigorous Yell quality checking process before being set live. Once your site is migrated over, you will be given access to a library of support materials to help you make any changes. The functionality which cannot be migrated from Moonfruit to Wix, and will therefore need to be rebuilt, is as follows:

· E-commerce stores

· Blogs

· Booking functionality

· Instagram Feeds

· Twitter Feeds

· Members only pages i.e. any page that requires a user to login

· iFrames of 3rd party software (these will be migrated but may look slightly different)

I have an e-commerce store on my Moonfruit site, will all my products and orders be migrated over to my new website on the Wix platform?

We are not able to move stores between platforms so you will need to re-create this within the Wix platform and set up your chosen payment gateway again. Please see this step-by-step guide and other support pages to help you to do this:

We will set your site up with a plan which allows you to utilise the store functionality within the Wix platform. You will have until 7th December to access your old Moonfruit site and retrieve any content from your current e-commerce store.

I have a blog on my Moonfruit site, will all my posts be migrated over to my new website on the Wix platform?

We are not able to move blogs between platforms so you will need to re-create these within the Wix platform. Please see this step-by-step guide about setting up a blog.

I have bookings functionality on my Moonfruit site, will this functionality be migrated over to my new website on the Wix platform?

We are not able to move bookings functionality between platforms so you will need to re-create this within the Wix platform. Please see this step-by-step guide for setting up bookings. If you currently use Google Calendar, you can also sync this to your new bookings system within the Wix platform by following this guide.

You will have until 7th December to access your old Moonfruit site and retrieve any content from your booking functionality.

I have an Instagram Feed on my Moonfruit site, will this functionality be migrated over to my new website on the Wix platform?

We are not able to move Instagram Feeds over because they require the owner to log in. However, please see this guide on how you can add it back onto your website and how to connect it to your Instagram account.

I have Twitter Feed on my Moonfruit site, will this functionality be migrated over to my new website on the Wix platform?

We are not able to move Twitter Feeds over because they require the owner to log in. However, please see this guide on how to use a 3rd party app to add a Twitter feed back into your website.

I have members/subscriber only pages that require users to log in on my Moonfruit site, will these pages and my members list be migrated over to my new website on the Wix platform?

The tool we are using to migrate websites cannot access pages with passwords on them and therefore these pages will not appear on your new site on the Wix platform. You will need to recreate these pages.

We are also unable to move across your list of members or subscribers automatically, members or subscribers will need to be re-invited to your new website.

You will have until 7th December to access your old Moonfruit site and retrieve any content and list of member or subscribers.

I have an iFrame of a 3rd party app on my Moonfruit site, will this functionality be migrated over to my new website on the Wix platform?

Yes, we are able to bring the 3rd party iFrame across to your new site on the Wix platform, however it may look slightly different to how you had previous configured it on your old site. It is simple for you to go into the editor on the Wix platform and change it back to how it appeared to visitors previously.

What does my new website package include?

You will still have access to the sites you have created on the Moonfruit platform with the same functionality available, and you will still have access to a chat service for queries about your site(s).

Can I optimise my website with new functionality, or refresh the design as part of the migration process?

Once Yell has migrated your website(s) over to the Wix platform, you will be able to edit your website’s design and content, plus add new functionality from a range of available features. You will also have access to a full support library here to help and support you while making changes.

How will I access my new website and make changes to it?

Once your website has been migrated, you will receive an email from Yell to confirm the migration is complete, you will then receive emails from the Wix platform for each site that has been migrated inviting you to contribute to the site. You will need to create an account in the Wix platform to access these websites via an account, so you view and edit your site(s).

Where can I access help and support?

Once your website(s) has been migrated, you will have access to a full support library here which can also be accessed via the site dashboard on the Wix platform.

What happens to billing when my website moves across?

The amount you pay will not change and will continue to be taken via Stripe, with invoices available on the Moonfruit customer dashboard.

How do I view the performance of my website?

Website performance data such as website traffic can be accessed for each site via the dashboard on the Wix platform.

Where can I view my invoices?

For now, invoices will still be available via the Moonfruit customer dashboard. We will be looking to move these over to Yell’s customer account dashboard towards the end of 2021, but we will be in touch closer to the time to explain these changes.

What will my contractual relationship with Yell be?

Your existing contract will remain the same even after the migration.

What future communications can I expect?

Customers will be contacted via Moonfruit at least 2 weeks before your site(s) is migrated. Post-migration, you will be contacted by Yell to inform you of the success of the migration, provide access to your new sites on the Wix platform and support with any additional instructions needed about repointing your domain name where applicable.
